Healthy Festive Tips….

With lots of parties with family & friends in the next couple of weeks….we ALL overindulged this time of year. Trying to keep some BALANCE is the key.

  • Firstly…be kind to yourself…& those around you. It’s good for your mind & soul.
  • Yes…you probably will indulge, but try to eat/drink the healthy stuff as much as possible. Enjoy plenty of healthy salads & veggies to go with festive foods.
  • Water…it IS your friend. Especially up here…drink it up!!!
  • Get out & about…go for a walk early morning to beat the heat, or at night to check out the Christmas lights.
  • Find some time out just for you…it helps you to ground your feelings & settle the mind…it can be an emotional time of year.
  • Smile when you greet people…even when you’re on the phone – they can ‘hear’ your smile!  🙂

Remember….things can be difficult for some this time of year…talk to those around you when needed – look out & support each other. There’s added pressure during the Festive season which some experience…here’s some extra tips to get you through. XO

Anxiety….

Anxiety is something I commonly see in clinic…& it can affect people from from varying levels.

Symptoms of anxiety can be very unsettling. Your heart rate increases, your mind races & you can no longer think straight. Though everyone experiences anxiety a bit differently, there are some more common symptoms to look out for.

Physical sensations:

  •  racing heart;
  • hot flushes, sweating & skin clamminess;
  •  rapid breathing; &/or
  •  frequent gastrointestinal upsets.

Emotional sensations:

  • feelings of excess worry, panic, fear or guilt;
  • obsessive thinking & behaviours; &/or
  •  feeling generally tense and wound up.

Some Lifestyle tips for you to try:

  • Connect with friends – keeping in touch with people maintains your support network;
  •  Exercise (ideally outdoors) – regular exercise has been shown to improve mood & reduce feelings of stress;
  • Choose healthy foods – consume protein at each meal & avoid refined & sugary foods. This can help balance your blood sugar levels, reducing mood imbalances & lessening anxiety;
  • Avoid caffeine – stimulants such as caffeine can exacerbate anxiety; &
  • Breathe! – if you start to feel panicky or anxious, focus on taking some slow, purposeful, deep breaths, helping you return to a state of calm. Meditation can also help to quieten your mind & instill calm. I hope to bring a meditation class to the clinic soon.  🙂

If you can relate to any of the above, give me a call to see how I can help you. I may use Flower Essences, Herbs, nutrients &/or herbal teas. Each of us are individuals….so no two cases are the same.  🙂

New Clients Needed….Katherine??!!

As you all probably know….I’ve been travelling to Katherine once a month for well over 18mths now. I started doing this as I had several locals had tried my certified organic herbal teas at Malak Marketplace & asked if I could come to town to support their health.

I truly love going down there each month to assist this beautiful community….but it needs to be sustainable for me to continue. Yes…I’ve helped many people, hence why they no longer need my help!! From stress, gut concerns, persistent colds/flu’s, hormone balancing, pain relief, children’s health & emotional support. This is an amazing feeling & this is why I do what I do…to see positive results after people taking control of the lives & health again. I definitely plan to be finishing out the year in Katherine…..but will need to see how things go in the New Year.

So if you know anyone who is open to natural therapies in Katherine & who would benefit from herbal & nutritional support or Flower Essences for their health & wellbeing, please pass on my details.

Thank You for Your Support…..Love & Light, Kristy x

Meditation Time…

I’ve had many clients recently through the clinic whom I have suggested to try regular meditation. It can be a time for the body to ‘check in’ & re-balance. For me it may not always be in a structured meditation form…..even soaking in the Epsom salt bath listening to music or going for a mindful walk can be chill out time.

Here’s a link to a range of meditation apps for you to enjoy!

Not only can we benefit from regular meditation & Epsom salt baths…..but I’m sure some of you may love to use them with your ‘little ones’ too….especially at bedtime.

Here’s  a lovely link to an article & script for you to try meditation with your ‘little ones’.

With this combination….hopefully they will be sleeping soundly. If you have any further concerns, remember I’m only too happy to help them with extra herbs & nutrients…just give me a call to arrange an appointment.

DHA & Omegas During & Beyond Pregnancy

There’s been some discussion around the importance of omegas & particularly DHA in our diets….especially for pregnant women.

In my clinic, prenatal health & nutrition is important to ensure both mum & bub receive the optimum amount of nutrients to allow the best possible outcome for their health. We as Australian’s, are often deficient in Omega 3  & our bodies can’t produce it. How often do you eat 2-3 serves of oily fish, or lots of eggs or ‘micro algae’ to get your DHA???

DHA is needed to aid brain development, nervous system & even their retina’s in the eyes – particularly in the last trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy can strip your body of nutrients quickly – bub will get them before you. Once bub is born….the growth spurts continue – so additional DHA is needed to pass onto bub via breast milk, & a ‘top up’ is a great way to do this.

A lack of DHA has also been linked to a higher incidence of post natal depression….even more fascinating is those babies who received DHA supplementation had a higher IQ than those given placebo.

Not all Fish Oils are created equal.

A ‘practitioner only’ brand is from a reliable & ‘clean source’….not contaminated with heavy metals. If you’d like support during your pregnancy or for preconception care….give me a call or book online today.

Blissful Lavender Wish Balls….aaahhhh

Insomnia is something that can hit us randomly when we have busy minds…or for some it can be a nightly occurrence.

Aahhh…..Bliss!!!

There are many causes for insomnia…from various hormonal imbalances, stress, & stimulants such as alcohol, tea coffee, chocolate, & drugs may interfere with our sleep patterns too. As may late night meals, our restless sleeping partner or….shift work.

Now I can’t claim these Wish Balls will ‘cure’ your insomnia….though I’m sure they will enhance a still & mindful mind…& help to maintain some balance.

Nuts are a protein source to help maintain blood sugar levels plus rich in calcium & magnesium to support your nervous system; the dates are rich in tryptophan & iron…& of course the lavender is a well known herb to settle a restless mind & relax the nervous system.

I WISH YOU a restful sleep……

Ingredients:

  • 1/2C desiccated or shredded coconut, with extra for rolling in
  • 1C Macadamia nuts (activated if possible – or LSA if no macadamia nuts available)
  • 1C Cashews (activated if possible)
  • 3Tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 3/4C Medjool dates (I like to soak mine first into water too)
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/tsp ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Vanilla pod, split & scraped (or pinch vanilla powder)
  • 2-3tsp dried Lavender

Method:

  1. Pop all ingredients into a food processor & blend until well combined with a nice texture.
  2. Using a teaspoon of mixture, form into little balls with damp hands. (I like ‘Lindt ball’ size)
  3. Cover the base of a bowl with extra coconut & roll the balls in the coconut to coat.
  4. Pop the Wish Balls into the fridge on a plate for 20-30mins to firm up before enjoying at night….or anytime!
  5. The can be kept in the fridge for a week or so…leftovers can be frozen in a sealed container. Makes 12-16 balls.

Why not make a double batch & freeze them!!!
