Have you heard of Golden Paste????

I LOVE turmeric!!!

I have been using Golden Paste on my fur babies for about the last 3 years…..& they just enjoy it in their dinner each night. My Rotti “Jax”, had occasionally walked like she’s in a bit of pain in her back legs & I really wanted to nip it in the bud before she had real problems. So I started her on the Golden Paste daily…..along with fish oils to ease the inflammation & reduce any pain.

And I truly believe it works. Not only does it help with pain & inflammation….but turmeric also helps the immune system & supports the liver – plus is a fantastic antioxidant. Both of my pups coats are amazing….& they just keep going from strength to strength.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2C organic turmeric powder
  • 1C water (extra if needed)
  • 1/3C oil (try coconut, extra virgin olive, or flax/linseed oil)
  • 2-3tsp black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 10-20g organic Ceylon Cinnamon (optional to help reduce dogs urine smelling like “cat pee”)

Method:

  1. Bring the turmeric & water to a boil, then lower the heat & simmer until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7-10 minutes & you may need to add additional water along the way.
  2. Add the freshly ground pepper & oil at the end of cooking, when the turmeric & water mixture has cooled down to just warm. Add in the cinnamon if desired. Stir well to incorporate the oil & allow to cool.

The Golden Paste will keep for 2 weeks, refrigerated.

Freeze a portion if you think you have too much to use within two weeks. You can find small 1/4-1/2tsp molds to use for this if you prefer.

Add it to your pet’s dinner plate or your horse feed … run wild! You can even use for Golden Milk, Smoothies, stir into Yogurt, add to your dinner plate as a condiment… it’s just as good for you too!

New Clients Needed….Katherine??!!

As you all probably know….I’ve been travelling to Katherine once a month for well over 18mths now. I started doing this as I had several locals had tried my certified organic herbal teas at Malak Marketplace & asked if I could come to town to support their health.

I truly love going down there each month to assist this beautiful community….but it needs to be sustainable for me to continue. Yes…I’ve helped many people, hence why they no longer need my help!! From stress, gut concerns, persistent colds/flu’s, hormone balancing, pain relief, children’s health & emotional support. This is an amazing feeling & this is why I do what I do…to see positive results after people taking control of the lives & health again. I definitely plan to be finishing out the year in Katherine…..but will need to see how things go in the New Year.

So if you know anyone who is open to natural therapies in Katherine & who would benefit from herbal & nutritional support or Flower Essences for their health & wellbeing, please pass on my details.

Thank You for Your Support…..Love & Light, Kristy x

DHA & Omegas During & Beyond Pregnancy

There’s been some discussion around the importance of omegas & particularly DHA in our diets….especially for pregnant women.

In my clinic, prenatal health & nutrition is important to ensure both mum & bub receive the optimum amount of nutrients to allow the best possible outcome for their health. We as Australian’s, are often deficient in Omega 3  & our bodies can’t produce it. How often do you eat 2-3 serves of oily fish, or lots of eggs or ‘micro algae’ to get your DHA???

DHA is needed to aid brain development, nervous system & even their retina’s in the eyes – particularly in the last trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy can strip your body of nutrients quickly – bub will get them before you. Once bub is born….the growth spurts continue – so additional DHA is needed to pass onto bub via breast milk, & a ‘top up’ is a great way to do this.

A lack of DHA has also been linked to a higher incidence of post natal depression….even more fascinating is those babies who received DHA supplementation had a higher IQ than those given placebo.

Not all Fish Oils are created equal.

A ‘practitioner only’ brand is from a reliable & ‘clean source’….not contaminated with heavy metals. If you’d like support during your pregnancy or for preconception care….give me a call or book online today.

Sugar…..& Why It’s NOT Good for Your Health.

Sooo….you may have seen “That Sugar Movie”….or not, but we all know sugar is not good for our health in general. All prepackaged foods full of hidden sugars….& play havoc to our bodies.

Not only does sugar add centimetres to our waistlines….but if our gut health is poor then we’re potentially feeding the ‘bad’ bacteria sugar leading to gut problems – & they proliferate causing more health problems. Sugars can ‘stick’ to collagen, damaging it causing inflammation & producing free radicals. Lacklustre skin & wrinkles develop, due to the collagen being affected. And yes, a sweet tooth affects acne too.

Fructose (which is found in corn syrup….which sweetens lots of processed products) is the hardest form of sugar to be metabolised by the liver. Sucrose or table sugar (which is 50% fructose & 50% glucose) is better than corn syrup…but still problematic to the body. Glucose is the best form of sugar as only 20% needs to broken down by the liver….the rest is used directly by the brain & body for energy.

Nature provides the best balance of nutrients which buffers the negativity of the sugar included. Even though fruit contains fructose….the fibre content & skin loving nutrients within aid the metabolism of the sugar – enjoy in moderation. Since dried fruit is naturally higher in fructose, always eat with nuts to bring back the balance & avoid the ‘blood-sugar spike’ from occurring.

I believe the best way to look at sugar is to go with low human intervention options….choose whole fruits, unrefined carbohydrates & wholegrains. Choose unrefined sugars such as stevia, & raw honey (in moderation).

Tips to balance Blood Sugar levels:

  • eat small regular meals which include protein
  • try sour foods to curb sweet cravings
  • eat mineral dense foods, include Himalayan salt in diet
  • try adding a bit of cinnamon to your cuppa or baking
  • eat more raw foods…the less we need to chew foods, the quicker glucose is released into the blood system
  • eat low glycaemic index (GI) carbohydrates such as wholegrains, legumes etc
  • avoid simple sugars
  • avoid artificial sweeteners as they are neurotoxic & encourage the brain to crave more sugar
